We hope that after reading, you will leave this page with a better understanding of who we are as a company, how we got to where we are, and what we hope to be able to add to this beautiful community. How the business began

Our story began in 2019 when after playing around with growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms for a while, I decided that starting a Gourmet mushroom farm might be an excellent way to get away from the standard 9-5 grind. While gathering supplies to get started, I noticed that there were no real one-stop shops that had everything I needed all in one place. The sites that came close felt outdated and out of touch with the current state of the industry. 

Something else along my journey that bothered me was just how difficult learning to grow mushrooms could be for a beginner. While there is no lack of information, much of it already assumes a certain level of subject knowledge or argues that there is only one right way to do something when there are often many ways. 

Since I was building the business out of pocket, I thought I should do something with my resources and skills to help move the process along. I started selling Pre-Poured Agar Plates and Sterilized grains on Reddit. I enjoyed interacting with the community and customers and helping to answer questions that I struggled with as a beginner. 

Eventually, while I enjoyed growing mushrooms myself, I decided to focus on providing the supplies to grow them since I got more fulfillment educating and helping others to make growing mushrooms more accessible to them.

Team profile

The demand for our products grew but not enough to warrant me quitting my blue-collar day job that paid my bills. I found myself needing to bring someone else on board to keep things going. Lucky for me, I had close family who was interested in both the business and the industry. I would now like to introduce the other members of the East Coast Fungus Supply team. Tom and Livia. Since joining the cause, Tom and Livia have been the lynchpins to our operation. They take on the majority of producing the made-to-order products, picking, packing, and processing orders. That leaves me time to manage the website, speak with customers, research and develop new products and services, and handle the less exciting aspects of running a business.  

We faced several challenges along the way; we struggled with balancing the growth of the business alongside our full-time jobs. We also had several issues figuring out how to scale production successfully while working with a tight budget. Despite all this, we managed to grow our product portfolio from just a few items to more than 50 different products before the launch of our website!

We plan to continue growing our product portfolio in hopes of becoming a trustworthy one-stop-shop for mushroom cultivators at any scale or skill level. We will be offering more made-to-order products such as new varieties of bulk substrate, grain, and various ready-to-inoculate agar and liquid culture recipes, as well as premixes. We also plan to expand our finished goods product listings with more options like injection ports, gas exchange, mushroom grow bags, and some comprehensive beginner kits. Another thing that we are looking forward to expanding on in the future is the articles section of our website. We want to provide the community with easily understandable information about mushroom cultivation. We will be releasing product overview videos as well as some introductory how-to videos. Further down the line, we also hope to provide you with an informational blog that will provide detailed information on many aspects of cultivation. We are also exploring the possibility of a mushroom cultivation podcast!

To provide high-quality, affordable mushroom cultivation products that suit the needs of both beginners and expert cultivators while remembering that a customer is not just a data point on a spreadsheet but a human being with feelings and values the same as us.
